Nila Jade

Nila Jade is my beautiful daughter and the inspiration for the brand, as well as the obvious namesake. Nila means "Moon" in Tamil, and is one of the most beautiful and poetic words in the Tamil language. Our little moon is certainly the boss in our household. Nila serves as the CFO of our company: Chief Fun Officer! She's a hardworking product tester that helps me ensure that I'm bringing not only the most beautiful styles to you, but also the most durable and highest quality!

Our motto is Good For The Planet. Good for Humanity. Good for your littles. Our founder, Nicole, is passionate about the planet, as well as the wellbeing of the humans that inhabit it. Mass produced fast fashion items dominate the textile industry, especially childrenswear, where parents are encouraged to have buldging closets full of pieces that will be worn once or twice only for another photo opportunity. Unfortunately, the majority of those pieces come with a dark history that no one wants to talk about. The harsh truth is that an estimated 93 percent of the world's textiles are made with unethical labor, in unsafe, unsanitary and/or forced conditions, often even by children. Garment workers are living the most common form of modern-day slavery. It's not unusual for the conditions to be dangerous, or even deadly, as we have seen from cases like the Bangladesh factory fires. At Nila Jade, we believe that no one should die for fashion! Many of our brands are at the forefront of the slow fashion movement, leading the industry in fair labor. We curate collections of high quality, built-to-last small batch (in many cases, handmade and artesianal) pieces that will be worn time and time again. We discourage overconsumption in favor of buying and getting lots of wear out of heirloom-quality pieces that can be passed down. And we choose fabrics and processes that leave a gentler footprint behind on our planet. We do our best to bring you the best, and are committed to constantly improving and minimizing our impact.
